Alderley Edge station volunteer group judged 'outstanding' third year in a row
Volunteers from Alderley Edge Station volunteer group picked up one of the highest accolades you can receive after attending the 2024 RHS North West in Bloom competition awards ceremony.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday 30 October with the volunteer group being awarded for its efforts.
Chairman of the group, Kelvin Briggs, said: "The station Volunteer group was set up nearly 5 years ago with the aim of making the station a more welcoming gateway to Alderley Edge village.
"We have commissioned artworks for the Manchester bound platform and created seasonal planting displays in and around the station. It's been pleasing to have our efforts recognised by the Royal Horticulture Society in their annual 'It's Your Neighbourhood' competition.
"We have been judged as 'Outstanding' three years running. This comes after our award of 'Cheshire's Best Kept Station' for 2023.
"We have set up library in the waiting room and some history boards will shortly be mounted on the waiting room walls.
"The big plan for 2025 is the refurbishment of the dilapidated building on the Crewe platform. Northern Trains have plans for the buildings transformation for community use in mid 2025. Our group intend to lease it and run an arts and crafts centre along with a 'Men's Railway Shed' group.
"Just now we are busy decorating the village with Remembrance Day poppies and have created a Poppy display in our Station Masters garden."
