Cheshire East has been asked for a second time why it hasn't imposed a public protection space order in an area of Wilmslow as it had already lost out on £200k in fines from 'boy-racers'.

The matter was first raised at a meeting of the full council in July by a resident who said the noise-activated camera installed on the Wilmslow Bypass, following a series of incidents involving revving engines and speeding cars, had been triggered numerous times.

He told the council meeting, efforts to combat the problem had been supported by Cheshire Police, the police and crime commissioner but not Cheshire East.

Six months later and Alderley Edge councillor Craig Browne (Ind) was asking the same question.

Cllr Browne said: "Over a nine-month trial period during 2022/23 acoustic cameras positioned on the ward boundary between Alderley Edge and Wilmslow registered 1,921 activations each exceeding 90 decibels.

"Had a public space protection order been in place at the time this council would receive nearly £200,000 in fines income.

"So, the business case is there, the evidence is there, the political support is there.

"The residents have given their backing. The only question remaining is, when will Cheshire East Council take action?"

Deputy council leader Michael Gorman (Wilmslow, Ind) said: "Extreme noise from tuned up high-performance cars and motorbikes have plagued the residents who live close to the A34 in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge.

"Two meetings have been held in the last couple of weeks with members and officers and the police and crime commissioner, and proposals are being brought forward to seek a way forward and continue to work with Alderley Edge Parish Council, Wilmslow town councillors and the office of the police and crime commissioner.

"I understand it will also be referred to the appropriate Cheshire East committee in due course."
