A public consultation has been launched over plans to build a 'highly sustainable' new housing estate in Wilmslow.

Developer Bellway wants to construct 135 properties – each with rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle chargers – on a site off Cumber Lane.

If given the green light, the properties would range in size from two-bedroom to six-bedroom homes. A total of 30 per cent (41 properties) would be classed as 'affordable'.

The proposed 13.5-acre site is 1.5 miles from Wilmslow town centre and bounded by existing residential properties to the north off Leigh Road, and in part by Lindow Fold Drive to the East.

Clay Lane and open fields are located to the west, with open fields to the south. The proposed new estate would also have a children's play area and green space.

The company is now carrying out pre-application discussions with Cheshire East Council and consulting with the public on its proposals.

The firm said it then intends to submit a planning application early in the New Year and, if approved, begin construction later in 2025.

Consultation documents published online, state: "Bellway is proposing a high-quality and deliverable scheme, which through sustainable design, will respond to the context of the surrounding area.

"Bellway's recent development at Alderley Park demonstrates their commitment to design quality and ability to prepare bespoke house types befitting of the area."

It added: "There are excellent links with Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Knutsford, and Altrincham.

"The M6 motorway to the south, M60 to the north with the M56 and Manchester airport to the west. There are several bus connections which are a short walk from the site, offering direct connections to local town centres.

"There are bus and train services connecting through to Manchester and Greater Manchester."

The consultation website said a copy of a consultation leaflet has been circulated to local residents.

Views can also be submitted on the website itself at Wilmslow-Consultation – AshtonHale or by emailing: [email protected] by December 4.
