A hygiene charity has teed up funds to cover its running costs for around three months following its annual golf day.

Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank held the event at Wilmslow Golf Club with help from sponsors Anwyl Homes.

Chair of Bare Necessities Wendy Hobson said: "In the first half of the year we helped around 12,000 people via 32 charities and that doesn't include the 11 pallets of toiletries donated to foodbanks in that time.

"We offer a range of essential items that some people consider luxuries from "give a smile" packs of dental supplies to bags of items for body-conscious teens to crisis kits of easy to carry minis for the homeless.

"The golf day is our main fundraiser and makes a real difference to people's lives by providing funds for toiletries, hygiene products and beauty items to be distributed by local charities. We're still finalising the total but estimate that this year's event has raised about £14,000.

"This should cover our running costs for around three months and enable us to support thousands of people across Cheshire East and South Manchester. We're grateful to Anwyl Homes for their continued sponsorship of the golf day, all 24 teams of golfers, Wilmslow Golf Club, our volunteers, donors for providing auction prizes and all the bidders who helped make the event a success."

It's the fourth golf day the charity has hosted with sponsorship from Anwyl.

Golf pro Oliver Pantoja has also supported the event each year.

This year's event was won by an Anwyl Homes Lancashire team led by Shaun Sumner. Fore Swingers, led by Andy Wright, were in second place, with No Ifs No Putts led by George Hobson in third.

Shaun, construction director at Anwyl Homes Lancashire, said: "The whole day was fantastic and everyone I spoke to commented on how well organised it was and how much they enjoyed it."

Managing director of Anwyl Homes Lancashire John Grime added: "Hygiene poverty is something most people don't want to talk or even think about, but through the golf day we're helping raise awareness and vital funds so that Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank can support those in need.

"Everyone at Anwyl is proud to support the charity and it's fantastic to know that together, over the course of the last four years, we've raised around £65,000."
