The popular free-to-attend Krazy Races soapbox derby returns to Crewe from 10.45am on Sunday 25 May, with 22 local amateur teams taking part.

Sponsored by Crewe Town Council, Krazy Races took Crewe by storm last July, with over 15,000 spectators cheering on the wacky soapbox creations designed, built, and raced by the local teams.

As the UK's largest free-to-attend soapbox derby event, Krazy Races has attracted over 250,000 attendees across the country and raised more than £150,000 for local charities, including over £15,000 for Crewe and Cheshire-based organisations.

Teams brave enough to take on the Krazy Races challenge will race downhill starting from Ford Lane, making a sharp turn onto Broad Street, and zooming past Brooklands to the finish line just before Badger Avenue.

Within Brooklands, an event village will be created, featuring local food traders, a funfair, crazy golf, axe throwing, and a large screen for families to enjoy picnics (Krazy Races).

Crewe Lyceum panto favourite, Ste Johnston, will be Crewe Krazy Races' official commentator and presenter, with organisers expecting a crowd of up to 20,000 spectators to line the streets, cheering the teams on.

A Crewe Town Council spokesperson said: "The first free-to-attend Krazy Races event in July was a great success with the Crewe community and generated a huge buzz in the town.

"We are delighted that the event will be visiting Crewe again on May 25, 2025 and excited to see a new group of soapbox creations compete, all whilst raising money for local charitable causes."

Newlife – The Charity for Disabled Children was voted by 1,500 people to be the official headline charity partner for the 2025 event.

Community fundraiser at Newlife, Lucy Beardmore, said: "We are beyond excited to be the headline charity for this incredible event. This is an amazing opportunity, and we are thrilled to join forces with the Krazy Races team.

"The exposure from this event will help us connect with even more families in Crewe and the surrounding areas.

"Not only is it a fun and engaging way to raise funds, but it also gives us the chance to encourage our supporters to get involved in this exciting community event.

"Our charity is dedicated to supporting disabled and terminally ill children, and every penny raised will go toward helping us continue our crucial work for the most vulnerable in our community."

With no event parking, Discover Crewe has partnered with Crewe Krazy Races to provide a free shuttle bus service every 20 minutes from Delamere Street.

The Crewe park and ride will begin operation from 10am, opposite Crewe Bus Station and Multi-Storey Car Park, which will be free to park on for one day only.

Head of brand and strategic development for Krazy Races, Danny Scoffin, told Nub News: "Living in Crewe myself, it was such a special day seeing so many people enjoying our event last year.

"We had fantastic teams representing some of Crewe's most iconic businesses and charities.

"From the moment the event finished in July, we were inundated with messages asking us to bring it back.

"We are so excited to be returning on Sunday 25 May. A huge thank you to our event partners, Crewe Town Council, for their continued support. We can't wait to bring another day of Krazy fun to Crewe."

Temporary road closures will be in place on Ford Lane, from Broad Street Junction to St. Michael's Church and Broad Street, from Reid Street junction to Badger Avenue junction, from 4am and 8pm on the day.
