An inquest has opened into the death of a woman in custody at HMP Styal (Wilmslow Nub News).

An inquest has opened into the death of a woman in custody at HMP Styal.

Alex Davies was found dead in her cell at HMP Styal on Christmas Eve of last year.

At Cheshire Coroner's Court an inquest has opened into the death of the 25-year-old before the senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish.

A police coroner's officer said to the senior coroner there was a ligature around her neck.

They said: "An inquest is required due to the death being in detention and being unnatural. It is requested the inquest be adjourned for further work."

The coroner adjourned the inquest to Monday 20 October. There is to be an internal review on Sunday 20 April.

Separately the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has its own ongoing investigation into the death underway.

A report will be made available on the website after the inquest.
