Mersey Rivers Trust have received a Wilmslow Town Council Green Community Fund award of £1,500 towards their next Bioblitz event at The Carrs.

The leading partner for the management of the River Bollin's water environment, Mersey Rivers Trust are also the host of the Bollin Environmental Action and Conservation (BEACON) Steering Group.

Together, the partners of BEACON aim to improve water quality and the water environment within the catchment of the River Bollin, including all its tributaries, meres, brooks and streams.

Within Wilmslow, Mersey Rivers Trust support the coordination and delivery of education as well as engagement events and volunteer work parties, such as planting wildflowers and removing invasive non- native species (including Himalayan balsam and Japanese knotweed).

These activities contribute to the upkeep of the Carrs helping protect and restore the riverbank.

Mersey Rivers Trust have also trained local residents of Wilmslow in various water quality monitoring techniques, allowing them to collect data on the quality of local rivers and waterbodies in the Carrs, Wilmslow Park and Lindow Moss.

The Green Community Fund award from Wilmslow Town Council will go towards the cost of holding a free community Bioblitz event at The Carrs next summer.

The grant will fund the services of a face painter, an arts and crafts stall and guided walks.

At the Bioblitz, attendees will be able to investigate nature using hands-on techniques and learn about the biodiversity of the plants and wildlife that can be found at The Carrs, some of which they may then be able to identify in their gardens or when they go for walks.

Councillor Tim Higgins, Wilmslow Town Mayor, said, "Having attended last year's Bioblitz, I know that these events make learning about nature and being in green spaces interesting as well as fun.

"We are lucky to have the beautiful Carrs park on our doorstep; free, family-friendly events like this help us enjoy it even more.

We hope next summer's Bioblitz is a big success, and thank Mersey Rivers Trust for all they do to care for the River Bollin."
