Plans have been submitted for a care home for the elderly which would create 85 jobs in Wilmslow.

The proposed home is earmarked for a site on Alderley Road currently occupied by a builders' merchants and car wash.

If planning permission is granted the new facilitiy will be run by New Care, an award-winning care operator which already runs 15 similar facilities and has others under construction.

The Wilmslow home will have 66 single bedrooms and provide nursing, residential and dementia care for elderly people.

According to planning documents submitted with the application, the earliest it could be developed is 2027.

A planning statement, submitted by Garner Town Planning on behalf of applicant McGoff Group Properties Ltd, states: "The proposal seeks full planning approval to regenerate the site to accommodate a 66-bedroom care home with associated landscaping, parking and access improvements.

"The site stands in a highly sustainable location, being on the southern fringe of Wilmslow town centre with frequent bus services running past the site and the railway station standing only around 1 km away to the north east."

The proposal is for a home which will cater for residents of all dependency levels, including those who require dementia care within a specialist unit.

All bedrooms will be equipped with an en suite wet room, and a range of internal communal areas and external amenity spaces will be available.

The planning document states: "Along with the significant investment made for the construction of the development, the new care home will create 85 new jobs comprised of 65 full-time and 20 part-time positions once fully operational."

A design and access statement states the care home will include:

  • a variety of day spaces for residents including entrance café, garden room, activity spaces, hair and beauty salon;
  • secure dementia-friendly sensory gardens;
  • ancillary support services including laundry room and staff facilities.

It says the home will provide high quality 24-hour care.

The application, number 24/4391 can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.

The closing date for comments is January 2, 2025.
