Plans have been submitted to revamp the 120 year old former Barclays Bank on 22 London Road in Alderley Edge.

The applicant James Hindley, who works for the Cheshire based property development company, the Cave Architecture and Design, submitted the plans on the 6 September 2024.

Included in the proposal are plans to extend to the rear of and alter the three storey Grade II listed building, which has been vacant since 2022.

The planning application reads: "The minimal nature of the external works should be noted as it is intentional and we seek only to restore the building and do not propose any significant augmentation. The exception is to the West elevation where an already heavily modified elevation will be carefully stripped of the redundant services.

"The elevation is intended to be repaired, repointed and retained. The new stair tower, which we proposed to build in frameless structural glazing will provide vertical circulation from second floor down to ground floor. It is required for day-to-day building use and most critically as a means of fire egress from the upper storeys."

A previous application was approved with conditions in September last year to change the use of the building from offices to four residential units on first and second floors accessed via a new brick entrance with stairs, a scheme of critical structural repairs to the building and clock, as well as repairs to make the building watertight.

No decision has been made as of yet and the last date for submitting comments on the application is 10 October 2024.
