Wilmslow does not qualify for banking hub according to independent assessment

An independent organisation tasked with ensuring cash is available outside of bank branches has decided not to recommend new cash access services in Wilmslow at this time.
Both Halifax and NatWest announced they would be closing branches across the UK, including in Wilmslow, following an increased demand for mobile and online services.
Halifax has announced it will be closing its branch on 19 May 2025 and NatWest will be closing on 20 May 2025.
Once a bank branch closes, there are alternatives for the community which include a banking hub and community banking.
A banking hub offers counter services such as cash deposits, withdrawals and payments. The nearest banking hub in in Bramhall.
LINK is an independent, not for profit organisation that is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority to ensure that cash is available outside of bank branches.
When a bank announces the closure of a branch, LINK have to review access to cash in the local area and look at solutions.
According to the LINK website, an assessment was carried out and completed on 24 January 2025 following the announcement of the closures in Wilmslow.
The outcome of their assessment reads: "We are not recommending the provision of any new cash access services in Wilmslow at this time.
"This is because our assessment shows there are already cash access services and facilities within a 1-mile radius which are suitable for the needs of the local area, or the deficiency does not cause a significant impact on the local area."
There are currently a few other bank branches/building societies in Wilmslow including Santander, Nationwide and Skipton building society.
