Wilmslow town council strengthens community ties with new coordinator hire
Wilmslow Town Council has recruited a Community Coordinator.
Being the lowest tier of local government and that most closely tied to the local community, the Town Council feels passionate about nurturing the sense of community in the town.
Wilmslow is blessed to have a tremendous number and variety of local groups and societies and an even greater number of volunteers who allow these groups the flourish and for the community to benefit as a result.
To develop and implement initiatives that increase the visibility and impact of Wilmslow's community groups, and support the development of community activities, Wilmslow Town Council has welcomed Lorna Williams to the Town Council team as Community Coordinator.
Lorna joins the Town Council team with specific expertise in working with younger person groups most recently at Youth Federation charity and the Town Council are keen that this sector is central to the success of the new role.
Lorna will now be the first point of contact between Wilmslow Town Council and all Wilmslow community groups. Over the coming weeks, she will be trying to contact as many existing groups as possible, with a desire to trying to identify needs and how she can help. She would also be delighted to hear from any group directly on [email protected]
The role of Community Coordinator is new to Wilmslow Town Council and an addition to the staff team, based at Wilmslow Parish Hall, that consists of the Town Clerk (Matthew Jackson), Assistant Town Clerk (Helen Richards) and Communications Officer (Sophie Taylor).
Wilmslow Town Mayor, Cllr Tim Higgins, said, "I would like to personally welcome Lorna to the team.
"A strong volunteer network is important to any community and is a central feature of what makes Wilmslow such a great place to live. By supporting this sector and by encouraging it to grow, the Town Council hopes that the sense of community will continue to develop for the benefit of all."
