Cheshire Constabulary is launching a policing operation that will target motorcyclists in a bid to help keep all road users safe.

Operation Caesar, which is the force's seasonal proactive response to the forecasted rise in people out on their motorbikes, will begin on Friday 18 April and run throughout the spring and summer period.

Officers will be in key hotspot areas on the lookout for any motorcyclist travelling at excess speed and riding dangerously - putting not only their own lives at risk but those of other road users.

During the operation, officers will be observing bikers, attending biker hot spots, and speaking to them about the importance of safe riding.

Throughout the spring and summer months, footage from where bikers have been riding unsafely will be shared across the Force's social media channels, including the consequences they face for any illegal activity.

It is hoped that these examples will act as a deterrent for anyone who thinks they can flout the laws of the road.

Sergeant Andy Griffiths, from the force's Roads and Crime Unit, said: "While we want bikers to enjoy their ride, this cannot be at the expense of other road users' safety.

"Our officers spend a considerable amount of time educating riders on how to stay safe on their ride, with many heeding our advice and keeping themselves safe. However, there are unfortunately some people who think the law doesn't apply to them, and my message for those individuals is clear – Cheshire's roads are not a racetrack and will not hesitate to take action."

Cheshire Constabulary will be running Bikesafe workshops throughout the summer period which motorcyclists are encouraged to take part in.

Bikesafe workshops are ran by advanced police motorcyclists for other motorcyclists helping them to be a safer and more skilled motorcyclist.

The workshop will give motorcyclists access to motorcycle skills eLearning, a facilitated theory class, an observed ride with an Advanced Police Motorcyclist or a BikeSafe Accredited Observer, and a comprehensive debrief on essential next steps.
