The Christmas period is now over and many will be wondering what to do with their Christmas trees.

On Saturday 18 January and Sunday 19 January, a dedicated team of volunteers will be out across the community, collecting and recycling Christmas trees to raise essential funds for East Cheshire Hospice.

Thanks to sponsorship from local businesses, every penny of your donation will go directly to supporting the Hospice and providing quality care for patients and their families.

This year will mark 25 years of the Hospice collecting Christmas trees, all in the name of a good cause.

A East Cheshire Hospice spokesperson said: "Over the past quarter of a century, this initiative has grown into one of our most cherished traditions, and it's incredible to think that with the support of our community and all our volunteers, we've raised nearly £2 million in donations through tree collections.

"This funding plays a vital role in helping us provide compassionate care for local people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and carers.

"We are immensely proud of this achievement and deeply grateful for the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of our amazing volunteers, many of whom have been collecting trees with us for a large part of those 25 years.

"Unfortunately, due to the forecast of poor weather and freezing temperatures, we have today made the decision to postpone this year's collection to Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January. The safety of our volunteers is our top priority and while it's disappointing to delay, we're confident that this postponement will ensure a safe and successful collection.

The good news is, this means we can extend the deadline for registrations, which is now Friday afternoon (Friday 10 January)."

Once registered, all you need to do is leave your tree outside in an easily accessible location by the early morning of Saturday 11 January and the team will take care of the rest.

The deadline for main registration for Christmas tree collection is now Friday 10 January and you can register now at www.echtrees.org.uk.

It is important to note that trees will be collected from the following postcode areas only: CW12, SK9, SK10, SK11, SK12 AND WA16.
