Some work is scheduled to start on Romany's Garden on Wednesday 5 February to investigate drainage before refurbishment of the garden begins.

Romany's Garden sits in the town centre adjacent to Wilmslow Library and has over the past number of years, deteriorated and been under utilised.

There are a number of reasons for this associated to the tree canopy and the surrounding hedges but most critically the underfoot conditions.

The area is owned and managed by Cheshire East Council who have recently looked to tackle some of the tree canopy issues.

However their maintenance regime and funding does not stretch to the biggest issue, that being the flooding and drainage of the site.

Discussions have taken place with Cheshire East Council regarding a future vision for the gardens as a whole and it is possible that funding requests the Wilmslow Town Council for enhancements to the garden will follow, however it is recognised that effective draining of the site would be necessary ahead of any future enhancements.

The garden has not always flooded, and indeed had been categorised as 'arid' within the Cheshire East Council open spaces portfolio, suggesting that something has gone wrong as opposed to it simply being as a result of a wetter climate.

The work will include digging Romany Garden (located behind Hoopers) in order to find the causes as to why it floods so badly.

This will need to be done before work can start to improve the area and make it a more usable space.

This work is being funded by Wilmslow Town Council.
