£59 annual garden waste collections will restart next week for subscribers to Cheshire East Council's Garden Waste Recycling Scheme.

From Monday 20 January, residents signed up to the scheme will continue to have their garden bin emptied each fortnight on their usual collection day.

Residents need to opt-in to the new scheme to use their garden bin to recycle their green waste and will pay an annual subscription fee for their bin to be collected.

For residents who would like to opt-in to the scheme but have not yet done so, the quickest and easiest way to sign up is to visit the council website and click the subscribe button.

Chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, Cllr Mick Warren, said: "Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has already signed up and remind them they will need to renew their subscription to continue to enjoy an unbroken service from 20 January 2025.

"The Garden Waste Recycling Scheme is a key element in helping us to increase our income and work towards achieving a balanced budget by the end of March 2025.

"This is in the face of significantly increased costs and demand on services, which is presenting an extremely challenging financial environment for the council.

"I would like to remind people who wish to subscribe but have not yet done so that they can get the most out of their subscription by signing up as soon as possible.

"It is an annual fee for the scheme, and so it costs the same whether they sign up now, part way through the year or only need a few collections.

"We had almost 100,000 subscribers to our garden waste collections last year, and I am very confident they will want to renew, with hopefully more residents opting to join the scheme as well.

"I hope residents understand that the very slight increase in charge is needed to help the council address the gap in its finances." 

Residents who signed up to the council's Garden Waste Recycling Scheme for 2024 will need to renew their subscription.

Subscriptions are £59 per garden bin per year, with a 25 per cent reduction in the fee available for those receiving qualifying benefits.

Once subscribed, residents will be sent a welcome pack, in an envelope with a bee logo, containing their subscription sticker, which will have their address and unique subscription number on it.  

Residents are urged to attach the new purple coloured sticker to the back of their garden bin (handle side) as soon as they receive it, but not obscuring any current subscription sticker.

Garden bins without a valid sticker displaying will not be emptied. 

Providing that their email address is still the same, residents who subscribed to the service last year will have received a resubscribe email, enabling them to simply click the link to renew.
