Wilmslow In Bloom receive Green Community Fund award
Wilmslow Town Council have continued their support of Wilmslow In Bloom this year, awarding a £3,000 Green Community Fund award towards their costs for 2025.
Run fully by volunteers, Wilmslow In Bloom aim to make Wilmslow a more attractive place to live, work and visit, enhancing Wilmslow's natural assets and heritage.
They plant colourful displays around the town and encourage the involvement of residents, local businesses, groups, organisations and schools.
Since 2012, Wilmslow In Bloom have represented Wilmslow in the Royal Horticultural Society's North West In Bloom competition, winning gold standard for the twelfth year running in 2024.
£2,000 of the Green Community Fund award will be spent on the entry fee and associated costs for this year's North West In Bloom competition, in addition to funding Wilmslow In Bloom's liability insurance, and plants and materials for the beds they maintain.
£1,000 of the grant will be used for bed improvements at Rectory gardens (pictured), which Wilmslow In Bloom have maintained on behalf of Wilmslow Town Council since last year, when the green space was taken out of maintenance by Cheshire East Council.
Wilmslow In Bloom plan to make Rectory gardens a feature in the town, with the creation and installation a wooden 'Friendship' statue in the centre of the beds and new trees and planting to enhance them.
The nine Wilmslow groups being showcased in 2025 are:
Wilmslow in Bloom, CETRA and Friends of Colshaw Parks, Chapel Lane 'Love the Lane', Friends of Wilmslow Station, Lindow Common, Wilmslow and District Rotary, Wilmslow Community Market Garden at Oakenclough Childrens Centre, Wilmslow Community Market Garden at The Temp and Wilmslow United Reformed Church.
Altogether, the groups spend around 5,000 hours volunteering each year.
Wilmslow Town Mayor, Councillor Tim Higgins, said, "Wilmslow In Bloom's work has such a positive impact on our town, making it more attractive as well as supporting nature and encouraging an appreciation of our green spaces.
"Wilmslow Town Council are thrilled to continue our support for Wilmslow In Bloom this year. We are grateful for the individual and combined efforts of all the volunteer groups involved and wish them the best of luck in this year's competition"
