A local builders merchant in Wilmslow is set to take on Snowdon this Sunday 13 April with donations going towards a charitable cause.

The team at Travis Perkins Wilmslow branch will be hiking Snowdon to help raise money for Alzheimer's society.

The Alzheimer's society is the official partnered charity of Travis Perkins for this year and is made up of people with dementia, carers, trusted experts, campaigners, researchers and clinicians addressing the biggest challenges facing people living with dementia.

Dementia is the biggest health and social challenge of our time. There are currently estimated to be 900,000 people in the UK with dementia. Many are undiagnosed and facing the realities of their condition alone.

The society hopes to change this with the help of their supporters.

What started off as a team bonding day out for staff has become a charitable challenge for the branch.

Assistant branch Manager, Alister Cole, said: "We had a bake sale at the branch last week where customers and staff members made cakes. We had customers bringing in homemade sausage rolls and things like that.

"On top of the JustGiving page we have raised a further £200/£300 in the branch from the bake sale."

"We've got some amazing regular customers that work out of this branch and we've spent year after year looking after them and they are really giving back, which is really good to see.

Speaking on how well the team have taken to the challenge, he said: "I'm surprised at how the team have embraced it. I've got two young salesmen who have only started in the last six months and the interest they have generated and the effort they have put in has blown us all away."

You can donate to them on their JustGivingPage.

At the time this article was published £810 has been raised out of the £1000 target.
