An animal sanctuary in Wilmslow has issued an appeal to try and reduce the number of stray cats and unwanted kittens.

The sanctuary has found the number of unwanted kittens to be a huge problem for all rescue centres.

The Animal Sanctuary in Wilmslow neuters a large amount each year and has recently launched its 'Pay For A Spay' appeal to support with its neutering bill.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "In common with other rescues, we are finding adoptions slow at present, even for kittens, which we feel is directly related to the cost-of-living crisis and ever-increasing vets bills which are putting people off adopting.

"By helping us to spay as many cats and kittens as we can this will go a long way to reducing the number of unwanted kittens we see and hopefully ease the situation.

"We neuter a huge number of cats each year which at around £100 per cat soon mounts up."

The sanctuary need the publics help neuter these cats and help reduce the number of unwanted kittens (The Animal Sanctuary Wilmslow).

Cats Protection have recently published CATS Report 2024 in which they estimate that there are over 10 million cats in the UK, and nearly 1.5 million of those are unneutered.

Cats can breed from around four months of age, and females can have up to 18 kittens a year.

If cats were not neutered the consequence would be an explosion in the cat population, far outstripping the number of loving homes available.

When you adopt a cat or kitten from us it will either be neutered (adult cats), or you will be given a voucher allowing you to have your kitten neutered for free.

At around £100 per operation, the annual neutering bill is huge and they need the publics help.
