Each week, we highlight an event happening in the Wilmslow area in greater detail. And today it is one that hundreds of residents are set to take part in, for a great cause.

The Christie are fundraising for a new £26 million pound centre in Macclesfield, which can be used by Wilmslow cancer patients, and will open later this year.

To help, a Summer 10k running event where anyone can get their friends and family to sponsor their run.

People are taking part as individuals, with their bubbles, or even as businesses.

For example, Church Street sleep paraphernalia company Comfy Group are taking part as a team. They've collectively raised £300 so far. Well done them.

This inaugural Summer event takes place in Wilmslow on from the morning of Sunday July 11 2021, starting from the Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

It is too late to enter, but you can still donate to people's individual crowdfunding pages.

You can also choose a specific cancer charity to support, if not The Christie.

There will be the option of a drinks station at the halfway point and finish, along a commemorative t-shirt for runners.

There will be a free VO2 vegan snack bar for all who finish the race, and bespoke medal for all finishers. Those who even partake in the event virtually, and submit their time through a running app, can still get a medal.

Toilets and first aid are also on site, for peace of mind.

"Starting in the town centre of Wilmslow this one lap course is perfect for fast times ran on scenic country roads, before finishing on Mobberley Road/Sandy Lane (just over 1-mile away)," said event organisers.

Please note that no spectators will be allowed at the finish and we strongly discourage spectators to come with you on the day.
