The plans to revamp the former bank have now been refused (Wilmslow Nub News).

A planning application to redevelop the former Barclays Bank at 22 London Road in Alderley Edge has been refused as of Monday 28 October.

Plans had been submitted to alter and extend the rear of the grade II listed building, which has been vacant since 2022.

According to the application: "The elevation is intended to be repaired, repointed and retained. The new stair tower, which we proposed to build in frameless structural glazing will provide vertical circulation from second floor down to ground floor. It is required for day-to-day building use and most critically as a means of fire egress from the upper storeys."

The applicant James Hindley, who works for the Cheshire based property development company, the Cave Architecture and Design, submitted the plans on the 6 September 2024 to revamp the 120-year-old former Barclays Bank.

A previous application was approved with conditions in September last year to change the use of the building from offices to four residential units on first and second floors accessed via a new brick entrance with stairs, a scheme of critical structural repairs to the building and clock, as well as repairs to make the building watertight.

However, the most recent plans to revamp have been refused by the council.
