It has been revealed how many residents of a Wilmslow care home have died during the pandemic.

Figures today released by the Care Quality Commission has highlighted how many deaths there have been from coronavirus over a 12 month period.

Styal care home Eden Mansions saw 20 deaths on their Station Road site.

It was not the highest for carehome deaths in Cheshire, or even within Cheshire East.

Woodlands Care Home in Poynton saw 20 deaths from COVID-19, 19 last year, one this year.

In the first few months of the pandemic, at least 16 died who were associated with the Wilmslow care home.

While nobody died during quarter 2 and quarter 3 of 2020, a further three deaths were recorded in the cold winter months of 2021, when Wilmslow was in the third lockdown.

Eden's number pales in comparison to Bedford Care Home in Wigan, which saw 44 deaths in this time period.

Overall, more than 39,000 England care home residents died with coronavirus between April 10 2020 and March 31 2021, according to the CQC.

One will recall that on 23 March 2020, the UK went into lockdown. And even before that, many cases and deaths were recorded. But any deaths before April 10 have not been counted.

Many English families lost relatives before that date so the national carehome death figures are likely to be over 40,000.

North West care homes had the most Covid-related deaths in the pandemic's first wave, but not the second. The third wave is not taken into account with these stats.

The CQC says it has not found any link between standards of care in any home and the number those deceased.

Bristol-based company Cedar Care Homes, who run the Wilmslow care home, have been contacted for comment.

The data also counts care home residents that unfortunately tested positive and died in hospital.
