A pilot's new business venture of a takeaway app for Wilmslow has taken off.

Wilmslow Eats - who have just celebrated their sixth month anniversary - is a bespoke takeaway directory app for the Wilmslow foodie community, by the community.

There are currently almost 40 takeaways listed with Wilmslow Eats, who aim to be the number one app in the area in the next few years, eclipsing the takeaway app giants.

Wilmslow Eats is like Just Eat or Uber Eats or Deliveroo, but the difference is they support local businesses and organisations.

They offer a much lower commission than the big three takeaway apps, so Wilmslow businesses can save money per sale by paying less to Wilmslow Eats than they would the others.

Wilmslow Eats also donate to St. Bartholomew's Parish Church Foodbank, along with sponsoring Wilmslow Football Academy and Lindow Cricket Club.

Wilmslow Nub News spoke to their proud Co-Owner and Director Andrew Hart (39).

"We are very much a family venture. It is myself Andrew, my sister Jane and my partner Emma," he said.

"I'm a Captain for an airline, but obviously because of the pandemic things have taken a real downturn.

"Now seven months in, we've forged some really good relationships, almost friendships really with some of the takeaways and some of the owners because they really get it and it truly is a win-win.

"Hundreds of thousands of pounds if not millions of pounds in towns that leave the local economy - probably on a monthly basis.

"That money is never seen in the town ever again - but it pays for the Just Eat advertising board at Wembley or adverts on the TV.

"With Wilmslow Eats, we keep the money within the town and we are local people support local businesses"

"And I do think as a result of the pandemic even more now, communities are more aware of supporting local."

The Wilmslow company also operates in Alderley Edge, Handforth, Styal, Mobberley and Knutsford.

The latter isn't even served by the big takeaway apps.

They currently have 3,000 registered users who have ordered on the app, which saves the user and the restaurant money.

The first Wilmslow business to list their menu on the app was Wood Fire Smoke.

"The battle for us is two-fold. We've got to try and get as many restaurants on board as we can - while also attracting the new users and the app downloads. There's got to be an incentives across the board," Andrew added.

"We are very competitively priced and we really are value for money from the takeaway point of view but obviously there still has to be the incentive there for the end user to switch from Deliveroo or JustEat over to us.

"So we try and offer bespoke discounts where possible, ideally with the support of the restaurants but regardless we try and be the catalyst - when a new takeaway comes on board we give them a launch discount.

It is a sad state of affairs really that the likes of JustEat wouldn't touch some of these smaller players.

"[And the ones that are] there's a real sense with the large apps actually when they've got them [takeaways] signed up, they don't really care anymore.

"We hear anecdotally from some of the owners that are also listed with us, if they want to adjust their menu with JustEat, it will take over a week and it will be outsourced to a foreign country.

"Whereas with us it can take just a day - and we can call them up - and we're all local.

"It is important that we do a good job. Especially as we grow, so we've given ourselves a tough task really in terms of taking on established billion pound corporations."
